Maybe

By Andrew Messner
March 26, 2018

If we close our eyes and absorb the sun, maybe we’ll melt with relaxation.

If we listen to our hearts instead of our minds, maybe our feet won’t stumble.

If we nurture others with the fruit from our branches, maybe we’ll blossom.

If we look up at the stars and ponder the wonders unknown, maybe we’ll sparkle.

If we sober up from addictions to things that will eventually rot, maybe we’ll feel drunk with happiness.

If we stop counting the seconds, minutes, and hours of every second, minute, and hour, maybe we won’t kill ourselves with deadlines.

If we stop pretending that life is a game with one goal: to beat the others around us, maybe we’ll win.

If our minds stop racing with obsessive thoughts that grind our gears and burn our treads to smoke, maybe we won’t be afraid to drive.

If we search deep within ourselves and find the courage to face our inner demons, maybe we’ll step out of hell.

If we just acknowledge that we’re slaughtering all that is beautiful by killing ourselves by destroying this world, then maybe there’s a sliver of hope.

Maybe.
